Yliopistonkatu pedestrian street

The pedestrian street in Turku city centre is a segment of Yliopistonkatu that is about 400 metres long and runs parallel to the Aurajoki river from Aurakatu to Humalistonkatu. Along the pedestrian street, you will find Turku’s Stockmann department store, the Hansakortteli shopping centre and numerous shops. The street will be extended to the upper edge of the Market Square once the renovation work has been completed.

Yliopistonkatu pedestrian street is one of the busiest streets in the heart of Turku’s city centre, which is why the events held in the area tend to be commercial promotions and various trade fairs and presentations. However, over the years the street has been used as a venue for many kinds of events, ranging from hobby horse championships to climbing events.

Around Christmas, the pedestrian street is transformed into an illuminated Christmas street.
