- The City Council has decided on the main guidelines for the overall reform of the grant system and the pricing of sports facilities included in the development policies of the sports facility network. The main guidelines will be introduced in 2025. The grant and pricing principles and details will be decided in spring 2023.
When the planning for the events begins, it is important to clarify what the purpose and nature of the event is and how it can be implemented to a proper event. Also, you should ponder is the event suitable for Turku and what new it could bring to the city in comparison to other events. You may contact the Event services at the very beginning, and we will gladly advise you more.
Event Day
The Event Day is a hectic and tough workday. However, it is also a fine day, when you see the result of your hard work and how people enjoy it. The event organizers should also be able to have fun on their event day. Try to schedule regular breaks when you can go and see around the event.
Turku Day will be celebrated in the historic Old Great Market Square and the Turku Market Square on Sunday 17th of September. There will be a cheerful and lively market atmosphere.
The Turku Day market event will again take place on the Turku Market Square. The Old Great Market Square, meanwhile, is full of cheerful atmosphere all the way to the courtyard of the Brinkkala Mansion. In addition to the stage programme, there will be plenty of Turku-based associations, clubs and council parties presenting their activities.
The Children and Young People’s Services is leading a change project to create a management model that takes a holistic view of children and young people’s services.
The Children and Young People’s Services is responsible for ensuring that resources are allocated on the basis of scientific evidence and needs and, thereby, ensuring the well-being of children and young people and the vitality of the city. The management model takes into account services provided by the city and other actors.
The Sports Services encourages Turku residents to get active and improve their well-being through physical activity.
The Sports Services provides a range of sports facilities and services for all Turku residents, including individuals and sports associations.
Cooperation partners include the service areas of the City of Turku, NGOs, and other partners.
The scope of work includes:
- maintenance and booking of sports facilities
- coordinating and organising sports services
- sports grants.

In the calendars of the Finnish food year, there are themed days for many seasonal delicacies, but domestic early potatoes have not been seen there - until now. In order to remedy this, an early potato day has been established, which will be celebrated every year on June 15 in the future. Early Potato Day was celebrated for the first time in the summer of 2023.
Biodiversity park is new solution to combating biodiversity loss and increasing biodiversity in urban greenfields. Biodiversity park differs from regular nature reserves with its use case: the diverse nature is not just preserved but actively increased. The parks are also developed into attractive recreational areas for urbanites, where one can learn about the nature.
Turku Energia is developing in Skanssi a new low heat district heating network which will be used to develop two-way and open heat market. Two-way district heating network allows buying the energy produced by small scale units and increasing the amount of renewable soures in heat production.
The goal in Skanssi district is also to research and develop other local heat production solutions like ground heat, energy piles, solar collectors, condensing heat of cooling and heat storage. Adequate heat delivery is always ensured with the regional district heat network.
Turku Energia
In cooperation with Turku Energia are smart energy solutions to district heating, electric grid, building and transportation being developed.
Skanssi shopping centre
Diverse shopping centre which has a hypermarket, several other stores, restaurants, recycling point and EV charging points. The shopping centre is fully wheelchair accessible.
The Taiteen talo arts centre was opened in Turku in spring 2022 as a home for art and culture – for artists, local residents, and tourists alike. Taiteen talo is located in Rettig's old tobacco factory in the middle of Turku's Old Town,.
Activities are spread out over the six floors of the former tobacco factory, and its courtyard buildings. A wide array of creative professionals, including visual and performing artists, work on the premises, and the house presents all kinds of exhibitions, performances, events, and workshops.
The Cultural Services covers three service areas:

The Cultural Services is responsible for developing and organising cultural, museum, library and orchestra services, cooperating with creative arts communities and promoting and supporting cultural activities in the municipality.
The Cultural Services is led by the Cultural Director Anu Laitila.
Turku Old Town invites the area’s operators and city residents to join the celebration!
Pursuant to the Food Act, it is possible to establish a food premises at a home under certain conditions. The starting point is that dwelling in the home must not pose any danger to food safety. Risk assessment, risk management and awareness and compliance with food law are the responsibility of the operator, i.e. the operator is responsible for the food safety of their products.
The competence spearhead project is one of Turku’s strategic spearhead projects. Its goal is to strengthen the competence of the Turku region and the city’s ability to respond to the needs of the labor market and business life. Osaamisen visio, “Vision of Competence”, shows the way for this work.

The aim is to increase the visibility of the field of art and culture, build partnerships, strengthen competences, and create new and innovative activities in the field.
Research has shown that culture promotes health, well-being, and inclusion. The impacts of culture and art on well-being can be enjoyed both by the experiencer and the creator.
Turku offers culture for everyone, and the majority of the city's cultural offering is intended for all citizens to enjoy. Tailored and targeted low-threshold services are also available for example for children, young people, and older persons.
Turku, the Turku region, the archipelago and Northern Finland are strong food and drink regions, the food industry is significant in the region and research and education in the region is of high quality.
The food-related entity has great potential for growth related to the development of livelihoods, the strengthening of tourism, and the diversification of services and experiences.

Turku Food Weeks in June 3-18!
Taste of Archipelago -festival

A festival of good spirits, food, and drinks where you can enjoy a picnic under hundred-year-old apple trees, live music, products from microbreweries and distilleries, as well as festival dishes from Kuulas charcoal grill. The event and Picnic Under the Apple Tree have been awarded nationally as the Food Travel Product of the Year 2023.
In June 2023, Turku was honored to host the world's most famous food event, the Michelin Guide Ceremony, for the first time as a Finnish city.
The Michelin Guide announced on 12.6. in Logomo wich Nordic restaurants received new Michelin stars, Green Star recognitions and special awards. The event was held together with the Michelin Guide, City of Turku and Business Finland.
The people of Turku were able to watch the event live from the race stands built in the center of Turku, which were located on the Kirkkopuisto terrace and Hansakortteli.
The Cultural spearhead project is one of the strategic spearhead projects of the City of Turku. The purpose of the project is to develop and promote the operational preconditions for art and culture in Turku in cooperation with the actors in the field. At the same time, the project supports the well-being of the citizens and the vitality of the region.
